Bio

Omar Samara is a Ph.D. student in Biological Systems Engineering at UC Davis. His research covers sustainability in the food-water-energy nexus and how to engineer the future of agriculture to reduce water usage and carbon output. Currently, he is working on developing agrivoltaics, a novel form of agriculture where photovoltaic solar panels are placed over agricultural crops, improving land use efficiency, decreasing water stress, and managing the local environment for optimal plant growth. His other interests include working on new and emerging technologies for agriculture including drones, indoor hydroponic production, and farm electrification.
