Robert Mahoney is a Junior Specialist in Agricultural Water Management with the University of California Cooperative Extension in Tehama County. His contributions to applied research focuses on helping the almond, walnut and prune industries consistently grow higher yielding and better quality crops while using water more efficiently. Recent contributions include completing a multiyear Almond Board of CA Water Production Function research project. His current work is in walnut and almond that is sponsored by the Almond Board of California, the California Walnut Research Board, and the California Department of Food and Agriculture. He is working to evaluate the merits of innovative irrigation management practices like Zone Irrigation Management, remote sensing of crop water use, and the development of automated tree water status measurement and advanced soil moisture monitoring methods.
